Entwined
Hand-carved cedar
5 ft x 4 ft x 4 ft
Living through the increasingly frequent and devastating forest fires of California compelled the sculptor to hand carve a local fallen cedar near her apartment in Los Angeles. Entwined is a reaction to the apocalyptic smoke filled skies of the fire season. The work carries a feeling of tension—like the roots of a tree or a vine tightly wound up—evoking anxiety, violence, and grief. A funerary pyre supports the carving.
