Excavations are fascinating because something is being uncovered that has been lost or hidden for a very long time. Stone carving is a process of excavation. Layers of time are peeled back and the fossils of extinct and unknown creatures are discovered within the stone in an intimate moment. These encounters confront the reality of our fleeting existence. My practice is a metaphor for my life, constantly evolving, combining science and forms in space as a symbol of that personal metaphor. We are constantly uncovering who we are. Experiences from our past resurface in our present and we are forced to reevaluate those events or the decisions we made. The past combines with our present and our present creates our future.
