Origins II (Shell)

Hand-carved limestone, limestone dust from carving process, hand-made paper, and salt

2.5 ft x 1 ft x 1 ft

Origins II (Shell) was made by casting paper pulp from two egg-like limestone carvings and then carefully pealing the paper off of the sculpture like a snake shedding its skin.  The work is a symbol of change, transformation, and rebirth both within the artist’s own personal life and universally.  In this work, as with many of the artist’s sculptures, the creation process enters into and becomes a part of the final outcome of the sculpture itself, both visually and conceptually. The work becomes a visual representation or relic of a cathartic performative action for the artist.
