Hand-carved fossil stone, fossil stone dust from the carving process, welded steel, plexiglass, and salt

4 ft x 2 ft x 3.5 ft

Exhibited in the Mint Gallery, California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, CA and at Track 16 Gallery, Los Angeles, CA which was featured in Curate LA

An abstract form referencing a sea shell marine organism rests on a bed of salt and limestone dust as if it is an artifact resting on the sea floor.  A creature of the past or of the future, the work becomes a timeless representation of the fossil stone from which it is carved which contains thousands of petrified organisms.  The limestone chips on which the stone rests come from the carving of the work itself as if it is molting or eroding over time.  The transparency of the glass acts as a metaphor for the relationship of humanity to the natural world: very close, but not quite one.
